The sports field is where character is shaped, teams are built and school spirit comes alive.
Rugby: The College plays sevens (boys) and touch rugby (boys and girls). The Waterfall College 7s Rugby team has performed well in the Open Division and the U16 Division of the Wembley 7s Tournament.
Hockey: Girls’ field hockey was introduced in 2020, with indoor hockey being introduced in 2025. The teams have excelled, performing strongly in the local league. Boys hockey is a popular option, with positive results and growing team spirit.
Karate: Sensei Candice Leslie (Class of 2018, Head Girl and Honours in Karate) has driven development of the sport at Waterfall College, creating a strong Karate culture within the school.
Winter Sports Festival: The annual Winter Sports Festival is one of our sporting highlights of the year, with an incredibly positive atmosphere for our rugby, hockey and netball teams to play on home ground.
Cross Country: Cross country is a popular choice for boys and girls, who make use of the 6km Insele Trail on the iThemba Campus. The College hosts an annual cross country event, with up to 400 runners.
Horse-Riding: The College is registered with SANESA.
Sports Awards Evening: Every year, Waterfall College hosts its Sports Awards Evening to celebrate achievements in all the sporting disciplines. Students are recognised for effort, dedication, team spirit, captainship and excellence in their chosen sport. As Waterfall College has expanded its sports offering, this event has grown in stature and is now a highlight of the school’s annual calendar.
External Sports: Waterfall College recognises its students’ efforts in specialist sports not currently offered on campus, offering colours and honours for various achievements. We are proud of all our external sports achievers and continue to support them in their sport of choice.
